Forties and Fifties find it difficult to lose weight due to slower metabolism compared to their youthful version of themselves.

Just hit the 5th Decade of your life - Congratulations! You’ve probably made wise lifestyle decisions and keen to keep on living healthy. Whatever your goal is- whether hitting a century or going beyond, losing weight get challenging as you age. Not because you are doing the wrong thing, simply due to the aging process- in this case; slower metabolism. 

A younger version of yourself with faster metabolic rate activities would readily consume more calories which contribute toward reducing storage of excess calories as fat.


Okay, can’t get any younger - How can I lose weight ?

Eating healthy food and avoiding high polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) containing food would be a good start in that quest. Adding an exercise regime in your busy lifestyle such as YOGA or fitness would help the cause. Brisk walking at a good pace or cycling to work would certainly maintain your fitness level.

Too Busy with work - how can I avoid unhealthy eating?

It is understandable that being busy with work often leads to lack of time to cook healthy food. And these days at the current rate of inflation- there is very little menu from take-away shops, one can afford that would be easy on the pocket.

Whilst it is challenging, planning ahead is the key. Few colleagues find it helpful to organize their fridge with evening dinner for the week days. Creativity is key. However, this may not be for you or everyone. Depending on the individual lifestyle, some may be fortunate enough to benefit from someone else cooking for them, a loved one - friend, relative or spouse. There could be others more privileged that can even afford to pay somebody to do the cooking.

Exercise and Eat Healthy

Bottomline is; as you age- you are naturally disadvantaged to lose weight due to slower metabolism. This is nature, while it’s futile to fight against, there are actions that could help the cause; Exercise and Healthy Eating.
