Synovial Joints consisting of synovial fluid that act as lubrication - allows these joints to move freely.

As the person ages, wear and tear takes place and these synovial joints lose some of their synovial fluid and makes joint mobility problematic - joint stiffness.

How many types of joints are there?

There are 4 joints that are responsible for most of our daily activities in terms of movements. There are pivot joints, hinge joints, condyloid joints and ball and socket joints. Each has their own mechanism of movement and range of motion.

What is the Musculoskeletal system (MSK)?

This is the skeletal system - skeleton. MSK refers to the musculature and bones connection, consisting of bones, muscle, cartilage, ligaments, synovial joints. Ligaments connects one bone to another, while tendons connect a muscle to a bone. Cartilage is often found at the end of bones, which help with preventing friction.

How can joints become problematic?

Stiff joints - will compromise your range of motions due to discomfort or pain. Other inflammatory diseases such as Rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis are disease progression that can lead to severe disability and loss of function if not well managed in a timely manner. Your physician should be able to give you more information, if you have concerns.
Joint mobility exercises are often beneficial in some individuals.
